INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Mark One introduced the MK 333 Printer in the Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Bologna as a support to the academic activity.
This has revolutionized the departmens's approach to research and teaching, as it allowed to develop innovative solutions faster and with limited budget, and then test, modify and approve them. This gave not only a theoretical demonstration but also a practical one of the completed projects. The main components realized by means of 3D printing are the frame and the interface with the gripping object. Due to the complexity of the gripper, the department couldn’t afford Its creation by traditional methods; using 3D printing, the gripper was built at a modest cost of 50€. Development costs and time were reduced drastically. This allowed the team to reach the optimal solution within their budget.
